You are the right hand of the court of Sunmarch, acting in the Marquis' stead and honor on 'less important matters' like espionage, spying on the populace - micromanaging agents of the court… the works, really.
Never mind how you start the game, for a moment - the Hand is unique amongst most of the important roles in Sunmarch in that is has Advanced Classes for you to pick from.

First and foremost, you start with a list of all active court agents deposited directly into chat. Remember these - these are your lifeline and influence on outside events while you protect the nobility at home, even if you ultimately outrank both. A wise hand might be an Advisor specifically to remotely order their agents with the power of Magic, though you need only meet them in person to discuss findings, orders, or anything - so long as you don't blow their cover. Your agents are more likely varied and specialized even further than you are - Mages, Mercenaries, and Adventurers alike, nested in both the Mage's University and Adventurer's Guild – or they could simply be a bumbling fool who's useful enough. Use your best judgement on who can be trusted for whatever needs be done, and who's better off as an honorary Clerk of the Steward's.
Sometimes, shit happens. The Marquis may be an incompetent fool setting their taxes far too high, the Chapel of Lights' local branch may feel slighted by a guardsman trying to extort them one-too-many times - the Mage's University may decide they would be better served holding provisional power over Sunmarch until the next dispatch from the Heartland, Another noble makes a play for power in the court - or some asshole claiming to follow the “brother sun” or some nonsense deposes the Marquis in ‘fair’ one on one combat. However it may have played out, it is more than reasonable to imagine tensions sparking in your time as Hand, and not all of it can be managed by proxies and external agents acting on your behalf. It helps to identify exactly where your own loyalties lie, in times like this: Your foremost being to Rasura itself, followed by the Marquis of Sunmarch - and, finally, your charges in the nobility below your standing, including the dignitaries from the local branches of the Mage's University and Chapel of Lights respectively.
